![]() ![]() I repeated the shot a few times to make sure, this is the best one. ![]() I put it through its paces to see if it lived. On paper, it looks like it should be a fabulous piece of glass. Especially the lackluster performance at 2.8 surprised me, where both other lenses beat it. Does the Sigma 30mm f/1.4 still have autofocus issues Started Questions Forum Threaded view emma2021 Regular Member Posts: 170 Does the Sigma 30mm f/1.4 still have autofocus issues 1 Hi all, I have a Sony A6000 with the Sony 50mm f/1.8 and the kit lens. The 30mm f/1.4 DC DN Contemporary Lens from Sigma is an affordable, fast prime lens. At the front the manual focusing ring is generous for the lens size. I'm not really ecstatic, but do you think this is in line with the achievable performance of this lens? It certainly doesn't match the samples from It continues to a rubberised outer barrel, with grooves to enhance grip. Although it is polycarbonate built, it does not feel cheap at all. For the 50mm I moved a few feet back to get a roughly equivalent frame. Classic Neg And according to my hands-on, it feels great to hold. I compared it with my nifty fifty, and my Tamron 17-50. The lens focuses by extending the front inner section, but that doesnt add to the overall length, see pictures above. Everybody says that the lens is bad at the borders, but at least the center should be decent. The lens optimized light distribution helps to minimize field curvature preventing a loss of image quality at the. Then I compared the quality for different fast apertures in a 200% center crop, focussed on the 14ft distance. Its minimum focus distance is 11.8 (30 cm). I don't know if this is lens issue or normal when shooting with shallow DOF on 1.4 or my lack of skill but 1 of 3 photos is out of focus. I think if you want it for travelling the Sigma really doesnt make much sense. Sigma 30mm F1.4 focus issue or normal problems with shallow DOF shooting Last Monday I've purchased praised Sigma 30mm F1.4 for my A6000 and I'm having a lot of issues with missed focus. All pictures of a certain distance were consistent in its quality, so no obvious problems here. This leads to increased chances of hunting as you stop down your shooting aperture: for example, if you're shooting at F5.6, you may notice the lens rack back and forth more than if were you shooting at F1.4, especially if you're in a continuous AF mode. Comparison between a Panasonic 25mm specifically designed for m43 and the Sigma which is designed for APS-C sized sensors (note: this comparison tool doesnt have the 25mm f1.7 right now so I had to select the 25mm f1.4 version). Just got my Sigma 30mm 1.4 today in the mail, and after reading all the controversial reports, I decided to take it for a test.įirst I did a focus test on a tripod, where I focussed on 3 different distances (2ft, 5ft, 14ft) and made shots, 20 times repeated. ![]()
